Union Ultras Hosting a Tailgate Prior to Sunday’s Benefit Game

The Union Ultras will be hosting a tailgate prior to the Michael Hoefflin Foundation benefit game on Sunday, March 1st, at Cougar Stadium. The Ultras will begin setting up at 11:00 a.m. in the “Cougar Den” tailgate area and will continue tailgating until 4:00 p.m., with kickoff beginning at 5p.m. The Cougar Den is located in the SW corner of Cougar Stadium.

Cal South Soccer Nation Expo

Chivas USA’s street team, the ChivaPatrol was present last Friday at the Cal South Soccer Nation Expo at the Convention Center. Chivas USA players Jorge Flores, Bobby Burling and Maykel Galindo also attended the event. The ChivaPatrol raffled off prizes, organized and played games with fans of all ages.

Trabajo físico el lunes, llega Scotti

Tras la victoria del fin de semana sobre el Hammarby sueco por 2-0 y el empate a cero goles ante UCLA, los jugadores de Chivas USA regresaron a los entrenamientos de El Home Depot Center en la ciudad de Carson.

Los ejercicios de hoy fueron en su mayoría de acondicionamiento físico.

De esta manera, el equipo rojiblanco asume su segunda semana de entrenamiento tras la pretemporada vivida en México. El mediocampista de Chivas USA, Paulo Nagamura, analiza lo que va de la temporada, así como el acoplamiento que tiene con nuevos elementos, como la elección del SuperDraft, Michael Lahoud. Chivas USA beats Hammarby of Sweden/Chivas USA doblega al Hammarby sueco

Chivas USA earned a 2-0 win over Hammarby IF of the Swedish First Division in a preseason scrimmage played on Saturday morning on University Field 2 at The Home Depot Center. Goals from Jim Curtin and trialist Eduardo Lillingston gave the victory to the Red-and-White, while goalkeepers Zach Thornton and Lance Parker combined for the shutout.

In the second scrimmage of the day, a team of trialists and Chivas USA players tied UCLA 0-0 in a 70-minute match. Lance Parker played strongly for the Red-and-White, saving a penalty kick in the 8th minute and making another stop on a breakaway just a few minutes later. Dan Kennedy replaced Parker for the start of the second half, and made a pair of saves to keep the clean sheet for Chivas USA.

The Red-and-White’s preseason record now stands at 3-1-1 (W-L-T), and the team will face the Ventura County Fusion (PDL) next Sunday in Valencia, Calif., in a benefit match for the Michael Hoefflin Foundation. Chivas USA trained today ahead of Saturday’s scrimmages against Hammarby (11 a.m. PT, University Field #2) and UCLA (1 p.m. PT, University Field #2) at The Home Depot Center.

Chivas USA Head Coach Preki trained today with two different line-ups, one with more experienced players and another one with younger players and trialists.

Flores expects to be on that final list.

Preki answered questions from local media following today's scrimmage vs. Tapatío at Multigol:

On the scrimmage:

"I thought it was a good game for us at this time of the year. It's preseason, we're trying to get fit, and at the same time we're trying to see some of these new guys. Sometimes that's not such an easy thing when you throw too many guys into the team.

"But I think it was a good exercise for us. We played a pretty decent team, a young, fit team that is in-season, they gave us a good game. We have to just keep monitoring the guys who are here. We are not going to make any decisions on day two or three, we will give them some time to settle and then we'll make a decision."

On the new players training with the squad:

"I don't like to [single players out]. It's always about the team and how they fit into the team concept. They've all done some good things, and they've all done some bad things. So we'll see how they progress in the coming days, however long they stay with us."

On the prospect of more Guadalajara players training with Chivas USA:

"We are talking to people from Guadalajara and we'll see what happens in the next couple days."

Briceño y Cuello se agregan al entrenamiento del miércoles

Chivas USA sostuvo su entrenamiento del miércoles en el complejo Multigol en Guadalajara de cara el partido amistoso que tendrán mañana ante el Tapatío, el equipo de Primera 'A' de Chivas de Guadalajara.
Entre los nuevos rostros están el delantero uruguayo Román Cuello y el defensa mexicano Omar Briceño. El equipo realizó un trabajo de interescuadras en el cual también participaron los jugadores que se agregaron ayer al equipo: el defensa mexicano Javier Ledesma, el mediocampista uruguayo Diego Scotti y el delantero mexicano Eduardo Lillingston.
Tras el entrenamiento, los jugadores y cuerpo técnico se dirigieron a su hotel, donde estarán siguiendo las incidencias del partido entre Chivas de Guadalajara y Lanús en la Copa Libertadores 2009, además del Estados Unidos ante México por las Eliminatorias Mundialistas.

Briceño, Cuello join camp ahead of Thursday's scrimmage

Chivas USA held its second full day of training this morning at the Multigol complex in Guadalajara, during which Preki took the opportunity to prepare his squad for tomorrow's scrimmage vs. Tapatío, Chivas de Gudalajara's Primera 'A' (second-tier) side.

New faces continue to join the Red-and-White's ten-day preseason camp here: today the team was joined by Uruguayan FW Román Cuello and Mexican DF Omar Briceño. Both trialists took part in an 11-v-11 intrasquad scrimmage that also featured the trio that began training yesterday: DF Javier Ledesma, MF Diego Scotti and FW Eduardo Lillingston.

After training, players and coaching staff retired to their rooms at the team hotel, where most planned to watch Chivas de Guadalajara's group opener vs. Lanús of Argentina in the 2009 Copa Libertadores. In the evening, the team is scheduled to hold a team dinner while watching the USA-Mexico World Cup qualifier live from Columbus.

Thursday morning, Chivas USA will scrimmage Tapatío at 10 a.m. local time (8 a.m. PT) at Multigol. A match report and assorted notes will be available here and at cdchivasusa.com.

Preseason Roster Update: New Players in Guadalajara (AUDIO)

After a light regeneration session on Monday, Chivas USA held its first full training session in Guadalajara Tuesday morning on Field 2 of the Multigol complex adjacent to Chivas de Guadalajara's Verde Valle training center.

Having traveled to Mexico with a 20-player squad, the Red-and-White today welcomed three new players into camp:

• DF Javier Ledesma
• MF Diego Scotti
• FW Eduardo Lillingston

The trio are scheduled to train with Chivas USA during the team's stay in Guadalajara.

Chivas USA travels to Guadalajara

Just a few hours after defeating Shandong Luneng Taishan F.C. of China in a scrimmage on Sunday morning, Chivas USA departed Los Angeles for a 10-day training stint in Guadalajara.

Chivas USA starts preseason with win

In their first scrimmage of the 2009 preseason, Chivas USA downed Shandong Luneng Taishan F.C., the current Chinese Superleague Champions, by a score of 5-1. The match took place on University Field 2 at The Home Depot Center in Carson on Sunday morning.

Preseason Roster Update: Players in and out

A couple brief preseason roster updates:

• Brazilian midfielder Gilson Tussi arrives in Los Angeles today and will join Chivas USA on the field tomorrow. The team has the day off today.

Sacha Kljestan returns to Chivas USA in 2009

Chivas USA officially announced that midfielder Sacha Kljestan, U.S. Soccers 2008 Young Male Athlete of the Year and Chivas USAs reigning team MVP, will return to the Red-and-White for the 2009 MLS season, which kicks off on March 21. The 23-year-old U.S. international and product of Huntington Beach, Calif., has been training with the U.S. National Team in Carson since last month. On Jan. 24 Kljestan scored a hat-trick for the U.S. against Sweden at The Home Depot Center, just two days after returning from a weeklong training stint in Glasgow with Scottish champions Celtic FC.

Chivas USA and LA Galaxy hold Bone Marrow Donor Drive (AUDIO)

Chivas USA, the LA Galaxy, and The Home Depot Center held a Bone Marrow Donor Drive today in Carson, with players, team staff, and fans all participating. The event was held in hopes of helping Marcia Williams, the wife of Real Salt Lake and Jamaican National Team midfielder Andy Williams. Marcia has been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia and has been unable to find a match through the national donor registry.

The drive took place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, and was helped by City of Hope, who was on site to facilitate the process - which entails completing a short questionnaire and then giving a swab of cheek cells.

Jesse Marsch, who played with Andy Williams in 2003 and 2004 for the Chicago Fire, was one of many Chivas USA and Galaxy players who were entered today into the National Bone Marrow Registry.

Preseason Roster Update: two players in, Esky with U.S.

A quick preseason roster to start the week - beginning training with Chivas USA today are two new players:

Also, six members of the Red-and-White are training today with the Red-White-and-Blue:

• Jonathan Bornstein and Sacha Kljestan, who are in the group that is preparing for the match against Mexico in Columbus on Feb. 11
• Jim Curtin, Jesse Marsch, and Carey Talley, who have been filling out numbers as guest players in the group that is currently training at The Home Depot Center
• Alecko Eskandarian, who is also a guest player with the U.S. today. "Esky" has one cap with the National Team, from an appearance as a substitute in the United States' 2-0 win over Wales on May 26, 2003, in San Jose.
