Chivas USA extended its lead atop the MLS standings with a 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders FC tonight at The Home Depot Center. An own-goal by Seattle’s James Riley and an 84th-minute clincher by Chivas USA’s Chukwudi Chijindu improved Chivas USA’s record to 4-0-1 and extended the club’s undefeated streak to five games.

Following tonight’s win, Chivas USA will hold its second ‘Practice in the Community’ of 2009 tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Montebello High School, located at 2100 W. Cleveland Ave., Montebello, Calif., 90640. The event will include a practice session of Chivas USA’s first-team squad, followed by an opportunity for fans to take photos, get autographs and meet players.

On Monday, Chivas USA will travel to Toronto ahead of Wednesday night’s match at Toronto FC, which will be available on the MLS Direct Kick package and via radio on W Radio 690 AM.

Gerson Mayen assisted on Chukwudi Chijindu’s first professional goal, giving the young midfielder three assists on the season, tied for top of the league with Osvaldo Alonso of Seattle and Landon Donovan of the LA Galaxy. Bojan Stepanovic also assisted on the goal in his first start with Chivas USA.

Zach Thornton made two saves to earn the shutout, including a point blank stop on a Sebastian Le Toux header just before the first half ended. Thornton, with three shutouts on the season, is tied with Seattle’s Kasey Keller, who missed the match due to a red card last week against Kansas City, for first in MLS.

Chivas USA Head Coach Preki, on tonight’s match: “[The players] are working their socks off for each other, and that’s a really good thing to see.
