Chivas USA earns first road win with 2-1 victory over Colorado

On a cool Saturday night in Commerce City, Chivas USA took its first road win of the season in a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Co. The team improved it’s record to 3-4-2 (W-L-T) on the season, and 1-2-2 on the road.

Midfielder Jorge Flores headed home game-winner in the 79th minute off a Carey Talley free kick. It was the second goal of the 2007 Sueño MLS winner’s career, in just his third ever match and first game as a starter. It was also Flores’ second goal in as many games, after he scored in the 82nd minute against D.C. United on May 17.

MLS Original Jesse Marsch, serving as the team’s captain in the match, notched his third goal of the season just before the end of the first half. He received a pass from Justin Braun, who notched the first assist of his career on the play.

Chivas USA took a 2-0 lead after Flores’ goal, but kept the lead for less than a minute before Tom McManus fired home a shot from distance to bring the game to 2-1. Brad Guzan made seven saves on the night, and the goalkeeper and backline held firm for the victory.

Defender Carey Talley made his first appearance for Chivas USA, starting the match at right back and playing the full 90 minutes, assisting on the game-winning goal.

Chivas USA head coach Preki, on the match: “I thought the overall performance of the whole team was pretty good; we knew what we wanted to get here and we got it. We’ve got good momentum right now and hopefully next week against Columbus we can get another three points.”

The Red-and-White's next home game is on Saturday, May 31 at The Home Depot Center, when it looks to avenge an early-season loss vs. the Columbus Crew.
