Chivas USA fell 1-0 tonight at Toyota Park in the second group game of SuperLiga 2009, the tournament which pits Major League Soccer and Mexican First Division teams against each other for bragging rights and one of the biggest purses in the region. The Fire’s Justin Mapp scored the game’s only goal in the 35th minute, following several failed clearance attempts by the Chivas USA defense.
Chivas USA returns to Southern California for the decisive third group game in SuperLiga, when the Red-and-White host Mexican club San Luis this Saturday, June 27 at The Home Depot Center. To advance to the SuperLiga semifinals, Chivas USA will need to defeat San Luis of Mexico this Saturday, while depending on a series of other results to advance – the first of which is a San Luis victory over Tigres UANL at Toyota Park tonight in the evening’s second game of the SuperLiga doubleheader. (Tigres and San Luis were tied 0-0 as of halftime of tonight’s match).
