Las ChivaGirls tuvieron una sesión de baile este pasado martes en el popular programa matutino “Despierta América”, el cual se transmite nacionalmente por la cadena Univisión. En el programa, grabado la semana pasada desde La Placita Olvera en el centro de Los Ángeles, las ChivaGirls compartieron el escenario con figuras de la música regional mexicana como Lupillo Rivera, además de personalidades del medio hispanoparlante como “El Piolín”.

Mamás entran gratis!

Chivas USA celebrará a todas las madres de familia de una manera muy especial en su próximo juego del 11 de mayo, Día de las Madres, ante la Revolución de Nueva Inglaterra. Todas las mamás entran gratis en el partido que se disputará al mediodía (Hora del Pacífico) en El Home Depot Center de Carson. Además, cada una de ellas se llevará una flor a la entrada, así como un Certificado de Agradecimiento “Mom #1” por parte de Chivas USA.

Además de los mencionados regalos que serán entregados a la entrada al estadio, habrá durante el encuentro una serie de festividades para conmemorar el Día de las Madres. Algunas afortunadas mamás, las cuales serán seleccionadas en distintos concursos de Univisión, tendrán la oportunidad de acompañar a los jugadores a nivel de cancha y también podrán tomarse una foto con el equipo titular antes del encuentro. Durante el partido, serán parte del encuentro, ya que estarán devolviendo balones a los jugadores en cada tiro de esquina, saques de banda y saques de meta. También, durante el descanso del partido entre Chivas USA y Revolution, habrá un mini partido de futbol entre madres e hijos.

Feliz cumpleaños Panchito!

El mediocampista de Chivas USA, Francisco Mendoza, cumplió hoy 23 años de edad y tuvo una visita especial: su mamá, Imelda Martínez, quien estará con él durante los próximos días. "Panchito" nació el 29 de abril de 1985 en El Salto, Jalisco.

En total, tres jugadores de Chivas USA celebraron sus cumpleaños en el mes de abril. El defensor Lawson Vaughn cumplió 24 años de edad el 11 de abril pasado, un día antes del encuentro ante el Columbus Crew. Además, el suizo Raphaël Wicky celebró sus 31 años de edad el 26 de abril, el sábado del Súper Clásico.

Chivas USA invita a festejar el Día de las Madres el próximo domingo, 11 de mayo, al mediodía, cuando se enfrente a la Revolución de Nueva Inglaterra en El Home Depot Center. La admisión al encuentro será gratuita para todas las mamás, quienes también recibirán una flor y un Certificado de Agradecimiento a la entrada del estadio.

Chivas USA entrena y vela armas

El equipo de Chivas USA regresa mañana a los entrenamientos para el enfrentamiento que sostendrá el próximo sábado ante el Dynamo de Houston.

Tras la derrota del sábado pasado ante el Galaxy de Los Ángeles, Chivas USA sostuvo el primer “Entrenamiento en la Comunidad”, el domingo en el Rio de Los Angeles State Park en Los Ángeles, California, en la cual cientos de aficionados estuvieron presentes y también tuvieron la oportunidad de conocer a los jugadores en persona.

Las prácticas mensuales de Chivas USA “Entrenamiento en la Comunidad” provee a los aficionados la oportunidad de presenciar, de una manera muy accesible, una sesión de entrenamiento del equipo y una sesión de autógrafos.

Vote Kljestan for Goal of the Week - Again!

Sacha Kljestan has been nominated for Goal of the Week for the second time this season, scoring a remarkable goal against the Galaxy this past Saturday night in the Honda Super Clasico. It's very similar to his strike against Columbus that won Goal of the Week two weeks ago, but this week he has some tough competition. The goal came in the 38th minute to tie the game at one apiece. Kljestan continues to lead the Red-and-White this season, with three goals and two assists.

Chivas USA prueba a tres cubanos

Yenier Bermúdez, José Manuel Miranda y Yordany Álvarez, tres jugadores nacidos en Cuba que desertaron el mes pasado durante la primera ronda del torneo Preolímpico, disputado en Tampa, Florida, estuvieron presentes en los entrenamientos de Chivas USA la mañana del miércoles en El Home Depot Center.
Bermúdez, un defensa; Miranda, un portero; y Álvarez, un mediocampista; están a prueba con el equipo rojiblanco de la MLS.

“Es un sueño que estoy viviendo… a muchos jugadores no se le da, espero que Dios me ayude para que todo me salga bien”, expresó Bermúdez.

“Esperemos que tengamos la oportunidad de mostrar nuestro juego, las Chivas son un buen equipo, aquí está Galindo que es cubano, por ahí también hay unos caribeños, que es muy importante”, declaró el arquero José Manuel Miranda, arquero que fue titular en el empate de Cuba conseguido ante los Estados Unidos por 1-1 en el Preolímpico.

“Nosotros estamos muy contentos, muy ilusionados.. contento de estar con Maykel Galindo, hay que seguir adelante”, agregó Álvarez.

Progresan los ausentes…

Los peligrosos atacantes, el cubano Maykel Galindo (jugó hasta el segundo tiempo ante el Crew) y el estadounidense Ante Razov (ausente ante Salt Lake y Columbus), mostraron progreso y entrenaron al parejo de sus compañeros el jueves. También Claudio Suárez, el defensa mexicano ausente de los primeros tres encuentros debido al fallecimiento de su padre y una lesión en la nariz durante un entrenamiento de la semana pasada, se recupera físicamente y espera hacer su gran debut en la temporada 2008 ante el FC Dallas, el próximo domingo, 20 de abril, en el Home Depot Center de Carson a las 5 p.m. Hora del Pacífico.

“Es algo muy especial para mí, ahora debutar en la liga, ya que no lo pude hacer antes. Mucha gente sabe que falleció mi padre y se prolongó ese debut. Lo más seguro sería (debutar) el domingo, ante el FC Dallas. La verdad que (Dallas) me trae muy buenos recuerdos porque cuando vine aquí a jugar en Chivas USA, fui al Mundial y regresando nos tocó jugar contra Dallas, fue un día para mí muy bueno, metí dos goles, ganamos 3-0", recordó Claudio Suárez durante una teleconferencia el jueves.

El defensor Lawson Vaughn, con una lesión de tendón, también entrenó al parejo de sus compañeros, mientras que el mediocampista suizo Raphael Wicky (dolores de espalda) todavía estuvo haciendo trabajo por separado.

‘El Emperador’ y ‘Panchito’ visitan a ‘El Cucuy’

No se pierda este sábado la visita de los mexicanos Claudio Suárez y Francisco Mendoza con “El Cucuy” en el programa Aztepa'cá por Azteca América.

En el programa, Mendoza y Suárez hablan de manera extensa acerca de Chivas USA, la MLS y la selección mexicana, además de tocar temas de su vida personal y como vencieron los obstáculos para superarse en la vida.

The goal came after defender Jonathan Bornstein crossed a ball into the middle of the field for rookie midfielder Keith Savage, who then laid the ball off to Kljestan. Running up to the ball, the third-year midfielder curled his shot with the inside of his right foot to the far post, past the outstretched arms of Crew goalkeeper Will Hesmer.

Here's a photo of Kljestan from our Home Opener victory over Real Salt Lake, where Kljestan had a goal and an assist. So far he has two goals and two assists on the season, and is the only player on the team with more than one goal (the team has six goalscorers on seven goals so far in 2008).

Eskandarian injury update

Chivas USA forward Alecko Eskandarian will travel to Germany this week for evaluation and potential surgery on his injured groin, meeting with specialist Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck in Munich. Eskandarian arrives in Munich on Wednesday, meets with Dr. Muschaweck on Thursday, returns to the U.S. on Saturday and will miss Sunday’s match against Dallas.

More information will be made available after meeting with Dr. Muschaweck on Thursday.

Chivas USA trains in Columbus

Chivas USA trained early this afternoon in Obetz, Ohio, at the Columbus Crew Training Facility, in preparation for the team’s match tomorrow night. The game between Chivas USA (1-0-1, 4 pts) at the Columbus Crew (1-1-0, 3 pts) kicks off Saturday at 4:30 p.m. PT (7:30 p.m. ET).

The team began its training session in warm weather and sunlight, but before long the weather turned colder and it began to rain. The change was not entirely unexpected, as the weather forecast for the weekend prepared the team for rainy weather. A current weather report sets the chance of rain tomorrow night at about 50%.

The weather doesn’t worry goalkeeper Brad Guzan, who is used to damp conditions, having grown up about 300 miles northwest of Columbus, near Chicago.

“I think [the rain] is going to help us move the ball a lot quicker, which will be good,” said Guzan. “We just have to make sure we have a clean first touch and I think it should be a good game.”

Guzan is looking for his first shutout of 2008 after having 13 last season, en route to winning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year honors. The goalkeeper is no stranger to Crew Stadium, making the trip for the third straight season.

“My first year I had an injury but the others I’ve been out here. I’ve had a good time in Columbus – I have some family that come down from Chicago.”

Chivas USA has never lost in Columbus, with a win and two draws in the first three meetings between the teams at Crew Stadium. Guzan isn’t taking anything for granted, however.

“Obviously they’re a tough team and it’s early in the season so both teams are going to be looking to get three points, and we need to be sure we come out ready to play.”

The Red-and-White will be without several players who remained in California recovering from injury. Forwards Ante Razov (calf strain) and Alecko Eskandarian (groin strain) will be missing, as will midfielder Raphaël Wicky (back spasms) and defender Lawson Vaughn (hamstring strain). Los Angeles, Nashville, Columbus

Chivas USA traveled Thursday afternoon to Columbus, Ohio, ahead of Saturday's league match at Crew Stadium, Chivas USA's second road game of the 2008 MLS season.

After an early morning training session at The Home Depot Center, the current Western Conference leaders took their usual travel-day bus trip from Carson to Los Angeles International Airport.

Following a one-hour layover in Nashville, Tenn., Preki's men landed in Columbus and arrived at the team hotel shortly after 12 midnight local time.

After a good night's rest, the team is scheduled to train Friday afternoon at 12:45 p.m. ET at the Columbus Crew Training Facility at Obetz.

Chivas USA (1-0-1, 4 pts) at the Columbus Crew (1-1-0, 3 pts) kicks off Saturday at 4:30 p.m. PT (7:30 p.m. ET) and will be broadcast live in Southern California by FSN Prime Ticket, featuring Christian Miles on Play-by-Play alongside Guest Analyist Brian Dunseth, filling in for Bernardo Osuna.

Spanish-language game broadcast will be on W Radio 690 AM, featuring Hipólito Gamboa on Play-by-Play alongside Analyst Rigoberto Cervantez. Pregame shows on FSN and W Radio begin a half-hour before kickoff, at 4:00 p.m. PT.

Chivas USA's Flores and Mayen to the U.S. U-20s

Two young Chivas USA players will head to Portugal this coming Sunday with the United States Under-20 National Team for the Campos Verdes International Tournament. The full release can be found here.

“This is the first time that I’ve been to Europe… I’m very happy,” said Flores, who was most recently with the U-20s for the Copa Chivas in Guadalajara in January.

Flores is happy with the group, most of whom he knows from previous selections. “We’ve been in other camps and, more or less, I know them,” said Flores about his teammates.

Flores is even more excited to be heading on the trip with another Chivas USA player, Gerson Mayen.

“Gerson is a humble person, always happy to talk to you, and as a player he’s very good,” said Flores.

Under head coach Thomas Rongen, the U.S. U-20s will face Ireland on April 15, the Cape Verde Islands on April 16 and Portugal on April 18 in the round-robin tournament

This is Mayen’s first appearance with the U-20s, though he has been to England with his youth team for the Manchester United Premier Cup.

“This is the first time that they’ve called me to the U-20s and I’m going to do my best.”

Gerson y Jorge preparan maletas

Los jugadores juveniles de Chivas USA Gerson Mayen y Jorge Flores viajarán este próximo domingo con la selección Sub-20 de los Estados Unidos, la cual participará en el Torneo Internacional Campos Verdes, que se celebrará en Portugal.

“Es la primera vez que voy a Europa… estoy muy contento”, expresó Flores, quien estuvo recientemente con el Equipo Nacional Sub-20 de los Estados Unidos para el torneo de la Copa Chivas en Guadalajara. En ese torneo, Flores participó en los cinco encuentros durante la competencia, además de ser el capitán del equipo en tres de esos cotejos. El joven mediocampista también estuvo con la Sub-20 en noviembre pasado durante una concentración de 11 días en Argentina.

Flores se mostró contento de ser parte de un grupo al que ya conoce, como miembro de otras selecciones. “Ya hemos estado en otras concentraciones y ya más o menos nos conocemos”, dijo Flores acerca de sus compañeros en la Sub-20.

Sin embargo, lo que le da más alegría a Flores es de emprender el viaje con otro joven, Gerson Mayen, con quien comparte muchos minutos en los juegos del Equipo de Reservas de Chivas USA. Normalmente, Mayen juega como defensor por el costado izquierdo, mientras que Flores es el mediocampista de ese mismo sector.

“Gerson es una persona humilde, agradable que siempre platica contigo, como jugador es un buen jugador”, agregó Flores.

Dirigido por el entrenador Thomas Rongen, la Sub-20 de los Estados Unidos se enfrentará a Irlanda del Norte el 15 de abril, a las Islas de Cabo Verde el 16 de abril y a Portugal el 18 de abril en un torneo con formato de “todos contra todos”.

Por su parte, Mayen estará con la Sub-20 por primera vez, aunque antes ha viajado con su equipo amateur a Inglaterra para el Manchester United Premier Cup.

“Es la primera vez que me llaman con la Sub-20 y le voy a echar ganas”, señaló Mayen, de padres salvadoreños.

Regresa ‘El Emperador’!

El defensa de Chivas USA Claudio Suárez regresó a los entrenamientos del martes después de ausentarse del equipo por más de una semana, tras el fallecimiento de su padre, Vicente Suárez. “El Emperador” viajó para ver a su familia en Texcoco, México, desde el viernes, 28 de marzo, y no regresó hasta el viernes de la semana pasada.

“La verdad que el perder a un familiar es el dolor más grande que puede tener un ser humano y la verdad que no había tenido, gracias a Dios, un dolor tan así tan grande después de muchos años. Me acuerdo cuando mi abuelo falleció era muy pequeño, todavía no entendía lo que es la vida. Ahora lo de mi padre si nos causó mucho dolor a la familia. Pero la vida sigue, hay que darle para adelante, más que nada por él… no pude participar en los primeros juegos por lo mismo, ahora tengo que ponerme en forma otra vez porque he dejado de entrenar por mucho tiempo”, señaló Suárez después de la práctica del martes en El Home Depot Center.

El defensa mexicano se perdió el partido de debut de la liga ante el FC Dallas el 30 de marzo y el debut en casa ante el Real Salt Lake el pasado 5 de abril.

“El equipo ha iniciado bien el torneo, con un empate y un triunfo y eso te da tranquilidad, veo al equipo completo. Lógico siempre hay que corregir algunas cosas, hubo momentos donde el equipo no jugó bien. Fue normal”, agregó.

Por lo pronto, Suárez entrena con todo para ser parte de la alineación titular que enfrentará al Crew de Columbus el próximo sábado, 12 de abril, en Crew Stadium. El encuentro será transmitido por FSN Prime-Ticket, iniciando la transmisión a las 4:00 p.m. Hora del Pacífico. Tampoco se pierda la transmisión en español por W Radio 690 AM.

“Me sentí un poco con falta de reacción, por la intensidad de los entrenamientos me sentí un poco falto de aire, las piernas cansadas, pero es cuestión de tomarlo poco a poco, pero fue el primer día de entrenamiento. Ya había entrenado sólo pero no es lo mismo que entrenar con los compañeros”, añadió.

Nagamura desafía a Percovich en Telemundo!

El brasileño Paulo Nagamura y el uruguayo Leo Percovich, entrenador de porteros, tuvieron un desafío el viernes antes del gran debut en casa de Chivas USA ante el Real Salt Lake este sábado.

Chivas USA on KTLA Morning News

With now just one day left before Chivas USA's Home Opener at The Home Depot Center, the KTLA Morning News came out for some live shots before the team trained this morning. Arriving before 6:00 a.m., Gayle Anderson hosted several different bits for the morning news.

The first shot, at just after 6:45 a.m., came directly from our locker room. On hand were the recently selected ChivaGirls, a number of Chivas USA Academy players (all about nine years old), several members of the Union Ultras, a supporters group, and team officials. Here are a pair of photos from the first live shot:

Soon, Gayle had switched out her UCLA sweatshirt for a Chivas USA jersey, and we moved out to the field. Dennis te Kloese, our Director of Soccer, spoke with her about the team's youth soccer iniciatives while the kids played. Later, Jonathan Bornstein, Lawson Vaughn, and Sacha Kljestan joined in.

Chivas USA Hosts Media Day

As the Home Opener draws closer for Chivas USA - Saturday night at 7:30 against Real Salt Lake - the Red-and-White held a Media Day at Thursday's practice session. A number of local and national media outlets came to The Home Depot Center to take in the training, and took the opportunity to speak with Chivas USA players and the team's Head Coach, Preki.

Excitement continues to build toward Chivas USA's Opening Day, and several local and national television programs are getting into the act.

First, on Monday evening, was a delivery of new Chivas USA 2008 home jerseys to the set of Fox Football Fone-In, with hosts Nick Webster and Steven Cohen.

The pair put the new jerseys to good use - that's Steven on the left and Nick on the right.










Also, early on Tuesday morning, three Chivas USA players went to KTLA's Morning News to showcase the team's new "Shirts Off Their Backs" program - where at the end of every home game, the 11 Chivas USA players will give their game-worn jerseys away to fans.

Jamaican defender Shavar Thomas, veteran midfielder Jesse Marsch, and rookie goalkeeper Lance Parker were the three players that arrived at KTLA a little before 7:00 a.m. Here's the trio waiting in the green room:
